About Wagalot

My Relationship With Dogs

I’m Carol Hanson, the founder of Wagalot. I’ve always loved dogs, my first word was dog and I shunned dolls in favour of cuddly dogs!

Despite that I had to be content interacting with other people’s dogs and it wasn’t until February 2008 that we became proud owners of our first 8-week-old deerhound/greyhound x Lurcher puppy.

We did all the recommended socialisation and Rocky turned into a confident dog who loves other dogs. So much so that if we went for walks and there were no other dogs to play with, he refused to move. That’s how we ended up with our second dog, before Rocky was even a year old. We truly believed we’d cracked this training lark and felt confident enough to rehome a rescue.

Herbie, a collie-whippet-x lurcher had been abandoned at 6 months old. A really cute puppy, until he got more confident and hit adolescence. Intelligent, very reactive, a high prey drive and boundless energy. Tenacity is my middle name and I wasn’t going to fail Herbie. Hands up I didn’t always get it right, but I’m forever grateful to Herbie for teaching me so much about reactive dogs.

A Personal Dog Service

In 2015 I started my home boarding business. Since opening our home in Hitchin to our boarding guests I’ve learnt so much about different breeds, behaviours, temperaments and how every dog is truly an individual.

I’m at my happiest with a house full of dogs sprawled sleepily over sofas and dog beds, content after lots of walks and a belly full of food. Happily Mark, Rocky and Herbie accept it too. I love it when our guests dash up the steps to our house, tails wagging, pulling their owners excited they’re coming to stay.   When they get back home, I receive countless photos of dogs snoozing contentedly recovering from their holidays!

When the pandemic hit in 2020 the hardest part for me was not being able to have my regular clients to stay or to welcome new guests. Like many, I reconsidered my life during lockdown and decided to immerse myself further to understand and work with dogs. I’m currently undertaking Ofqual approved training to become a dog trainer and behaviourist.

My dog day care and dog boarding services can be booked by contacting me online or by phone. All doggy day care and dog boarding services are based from my home in Hitchin. Doggy day care is available to dog owners living Hertfordshire and my dog boarding services for anyone in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. I look forward to hearing from you!

Happy House Guests

I can’t recommend Carol at Wagalot dogs enough! My dog Frankie runs into her house full of excitement every time and he enjoys being with her and her dogs. He always comes back thoroughly worn out and thoroughly happy. I’m so glad I found Wagalot!

Frankie, Norfolk Terrier

It’s always daunting leaving your fur baby when you go away but with Carol we feel perfectly secure and unworried that Castro is in safe hands.

He settled in very quickly and the updates and photos reassured us that he was having an amazing time. When we picked him up he slept for ages after having so much fun running around with the rest of the pack.

Would absolutely recommend Wagalot Dogs, in fact we already have to a number of people!

Thanks so much for taking such great care of such an important part of our family while we are away.

Castro, Romanian Rescue

Carol you are the best. Margot had the best holiday ever with you. It made being away so much more bearable. We were so nervous about leaving her but didn’t need to be at all. I think she’s desperate to come back, which is handy as she will be tomorrow!! On a serious note your professionalism, knowledge of dogs and all round loveliness makes your service a big 5 star experience. Thank you.
